Over the years there have been many amazing people who have passed in real life who have also touched people within Second Life.

I compile a list yearly of those who have passed within the year since the prior year's SLCC and publish a "In Memorial" section of the program that lists the names of these lost & beloved avatars along with short dedications & sentiments.

If you know someone who has passed away this past year, please either list them here with your thoughts or IM me directly in world to Rhiannon Chatnoir.

Memorials:

Amaria Yuhara

Annemarie Niekerk

Chablis Crabgrass - died October 20 2008.

Chester Capalini - died December 30 2008.

Darkscorp Decatur / Serenityfirefly McMahon - passed away June 27, 2009.

Dinnie Devonshire (Donna Dinberg in RL) - was a Canadian librarian, archivist and genealogist. But most of all Donna was a loving and beloved wife, mother and grandmother. At the end of a long fight she died from cancer at 11 April 2009. Her spirit to live, and her international view on life and work are still an inspiration to many people. Both inside and outside Second Life.

Gabbi Sweetwater - Gabbi Sweetwater left us Feb 10th. Gabbi was a healer of mind and spirit. She wasn't about simply helping mankind in the abstract, she gave of herself to aid and guide anyone who needed it. Where she walked she scattered love like seeds. She loved music, gardening, horses, dancing, and laughter. Always giving, always laughing, and forever living in our hearts

Garth Dunn - Most of his friends in Real World called him Dusty. Loved Women, cats, horses, scuba diving and most vehicles.

Glorious Nightfire

Hakeel Aeon / Khaden Benoir - If you really care to know me, then first try to show me. (He was 23 years old)

Haldin Koba (Dave Mewhinney in RL) - rezzed for the first time in July of 2007. Dave's other alt, Lena, came to be the following October. Dave loved being Lena. Lena was cancer free. Haldin was an active volunteer at the Alliance Virtual Library reference desk. He spent hours helping new residents new to SL, and making anyone who met him laugh. Haldin became like a father to many people there. Dave was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in July of 2006. Second Life was an amazing blessing for Dave. He was able to connect with people the world over without having to leave the house. The many friends that he made here enriched his life beyond measure. While in SL, Dave was able forget his disease and the effects of his treatments for a while. Haldin also found help and understanding as a member of the Survivor's Group. On February 13th, Dave, Haldin and Lena passed away.

Hunter Talon - he was a friend, and a unifier of friends from diverse backgrounds - an uncommon visionary and a well-remembered colleague.

Ian Bartfeld

Ingrid Daehlie - soulmate of Madonna Milena & "Madonna's 'Beautiful Goddess'. Forever loved, and deeply missed. She will live on in my heart until I'm with her again.

Jessi Gladstone - died June 3, 2009.

Jim Roeth - Be it sight, sound, the smell, the touch. There's something, Inside that we need so much, The sight of a touch, or the scent of a sound, Or the strength of an Oak with roots deep in the ground. The wonder of flowers, to be covered, and then to burst up, Thru tarmack, to the sun again, Or to fly to the sun without burning a wing, To lie in the meadow and hear the grass sing, To have all these things in our memories hoard, And to use them, To help us, To find...
(Moody Blues, Departure)

Jodie Vandyke - Its a good thing I have a big heart.

Kasuga Hax - Who am I? I'm not the type to talk so much about myself too much. The world is a dangerous place. Meet me, greet me, and we'll see what goes from there.

Kendra Bancroft - joined Second Life in June 17, 2004. She quickly became a moving force on the Official Second Life forums due to her clever witticism. A real-life activist for the transgendered community, she found a way to apply her background in politics to Second Life as well: partnering up with Ulrika Zugzwang to create self-governance in Second Life: Projekt Neualtenburg.

With her degree in Visual Arts and having been trained as a photographer, besides her career as a writer of comics (she both worked for DC Comics and Marvel Comics) and as Creative Editor of the hilarious tabloid Weekly World News, her talent in Second Life focused on doing amazingly creative and realistic buildings, props, and clothing.

Ironically, she was not known to be a regular user of voice chat in Second Life, and none of her machinimas featured her voice, when she was known world-wide as the voice of Pokémon's Meowth (among dozens of other characters of cartoons, and hundreds of voice-overs for videos, games, and commercials). She had a huge fan base among the Pokémon crowd.

Kendra Bancroft, one of the most talented and creative builders in Second Life, a founder of communities, sadly departed both Second Life and Real Life on December 11, 2008.

Khaden Benoir

Lachlan Campbell - lost his battle to cancer April 24th of this year. As an attorney of law in the real world Lachlan was no stranger to putting up a fight. When he was diagnosed with cancer he fought it with the same vigor and bravery, knowing this was a battle he would not win. In Second Life Lachlan was well known around the live music venues, his passion for music was most evident when he took on the role as as DJ for the Scotland sim. He loved sharing his Scotish culture with anybody that would listen. Lachlan's Scottish pride was well known to those that loved him, from the colorful kilts he wore to the "funny" way he spoke through text dialog.

Lee Rammidge - died May, 2009.

Leto Yoshiro - real life and second life partner of Enchant Jacques. Forever and a Day...Enchant

LilSara Bashly

Maleficent Monigal - died January 28 2009.

Mysty Oh - Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the number of moments that take our breath away. Life is short... run toward your fears... break the rules... forgive quickly... kiss slowly... love truly... laugh uncontrollably... above all, never regret anything that made you smile!

Nataliana Yuhara - A friendly girl who just wanted to have fun.

Racky Congrejo - SL and RL husband of Pat48 Barbosa passed away January 2, 2009. You taught me about love, life and laughter and I thank you Racky. The ripples of your life and love will go on through eternity in recognition of your life. Love Pat

Revy Rezillo

Sheena Javelin

Stephanie Superior - died March, 2009.

Somber Teardrop

Valient Strangelove - died June 12, 2009.
Revy Rezillo. The evening Trebor told me of Revy's passing in RL, I felt a very large part of my heart die as well. I was inconsolable. The one bright spot in my life had now been extinguished. We shared a connection that I doubt either of us had felt before. He was my best friend. We would finish each others sentences. We always tried to be there to lend a shoulder to the other when an avatar would break his or my heart. The countless hours we laughed. The jokes we played on one another. The endless mind games. Although we gave each other our independence and freedom in SL , it was as if we were the only two souls in the game at times. I'll never get over this loss of my best bud. I cry even now. There is so much I want to say to him. So much I still want to do. But those opportunities are now gone forever. He was and always will be my one true love. I love you Revy, I miss you more with each passing hour. Until we are together again, my friend. Huggles and Kisses Always and Forever, Your Gaigey
Padma Sorbet 4-2-1981 to 12-15-2008
Padma passed unexpectedly from pnumonia as a complication of stomach flu.
Padma is Cherokee, Choctaw, and Creek. Further, she is a Dreamweaver. She was proud of her heritage and well versed in her people’s culture. She practiced her lifestyle and taught others, knowing that the way helped all people. Padma was incredibly open minded, and accepting of all that she met.

Padma is one of the most intelligent human beings that I have ever been blessed to know. She is also the most selfless, giving, kind, compassionate, and considerate person that I have ever known.
Padma had an incredible love of music. All types, all kinds. She particularly loved Native American music, and had a strong love for the classics. But she dearly loved dance music as well.
Padma loved to dance. The freedom in it touched her soul and released her. Whether she was on a techno-pop dance floor, or a ballroom dance floor, or getting down in a tribal powwow, she loved dancing.

I love Padma with all my heart and all my soul. I did then. I do now. I will in our next life together. I go to sleep with her on my mind, and I wake up with her on my mind. She is my love, she is Mo Graidh.
